Sir Paul Nurse, Nobel Prize winner and President of the Royal Society in London, England, received the degree Doctor of Science, honoris causa, for his major discoveries in genetics and cell biology. These include the codiscovery of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) as the key regulator molecules controlling S phase and mitosis, findings that have had implications for understanding cell reproduction, cell growth, development and cancer.
